The Reign of Blood

[edit]

In the Fouth Age, the city of Narmad (now known as Delore) was ruled by Araya Gen'Gel'Ma'Narmad; last and greatest ruler of Ma'Narmad.

  • Began his reign as Gel'Ma at the age of 9
  • in his early years he was a beloved ruler
  • was a brave ruler who led battles from the front and fought honorably
  • on the eve of his 28th birthday, Araya had a vision of an ancient and powerful orb buried deep beneath his city; which promised the knowledge and ability to allow him to lead and rule all that was rightfully his
    • Local legend states that an ancient ancestor of Ma'Narmad unified the Gohpeli and ruled over the entire lineage.
  • This dream sparked confidence in Araya that he was destined for greatness. He increased raiding significantly, and within the next five years conquered several nearby settlements. All the while, he sent explorers down into the catacombs and the underlying ruins to find the orb.
  • at the age of 33, a team of his explorers uncovered the Sanguine Eye deep within the maze of unknowably ancient ruins beneath Narmad.
  • The night of the discovery, Araya had a vivid prophetic dream where he let his blood fall upon the Sanguine Eye and a sensation of freedom, weightlessness, and... power washed over him. The following day, in the Narmad Town Square, he opened his wrists above the clear orb with his two wives, one husband, and seven children standing behind him. As his blood streamed onto the orb, it permeated the crystal surface, clouding it with red. His blood fell faster, as though the orb pulled it from the slashes in his skin. Araya fell to his knees, grimacing, but as he paled further, a smile grew on his face, then as the last few drops of blood fell from his forearms, he stood. His first wife rushed to his side, but he threw back an arm to stop her before he whispered three words that echoed around the square, "We are free." It was in this moment that Araya Gen'Gel'Ma'Narmad was born.
