At the dawn of the First Age the gods created the Anarai, then out of Hubris the Anarai fell. When they fell, their connection to the divine was severed and they became mortal. These mortals became known as the Zahar. For the second age the Zahar struggled on, teetering on the edge of extinction. When Lunala brought stability to the pantheon, they were finally able to reach out to the gods who were able to assert their power over Agrakos as they settled into their places under the moon. The few Zahar who survived the second age (be it individuals, families, tribes, settlements, or warbands) sought after gods and spirit willing to bless them. Over the third age, they made deals, made blood pacts, swore bloodline oaths, all resulting in what became the Lineages. These deals warped the power and appearance of the Zahar to varying degrees. Their patrons, now often called the Progenitors. Members of the lineages began to rise up to take their place amongst the ranks of the Risen. As time passed, the lineages became distanced from their progenitors. This newfound distance granted leeway to the lineages, though the ancient oaths and deals would never truly lose their power.
