The Flag of the Mukasa Peoples, as it was drafted on the Day of Blood during the Expansion War

The Mukasa Peoples, also known as the Whalefall Eleen, are a lineage based exclusively within the Salt Desert. They are descended from Eleen who crash-landed there around -6000 ANC, and discovered eternally-bleeding Anarai corpses around which they formed a society.

History

The Dark Times

(approx. -6000 to -1800 ANC)

The name "Dark Times" is fitting for this period for two reasons. The first is that, for the most part, little to nothing is known of this time. The second is that, during the time before discovering the Fountain Corpse, survival in the salt desert was extremely difficult. It was likely a time of short lifespans, sustained by lean meals hunted with the assistance of the Lizard Horses, which the Mukasa are said to have quickly learned how to ride.

The First Ge'jai Sana and the first Sana'xa

(lit. "Drinking blood, Blood leader." approx. -1800 to -100 ANC)

In about -1800 ANC, the Mukasa discovered the Fountain Corpse. Several drank from its blood and perished, and others drank and were granted immense power, the title of Sana'xa, and the ability to sense the presence of Lesser Fountains. There exist few records from this time, but what there is suggests the presence of several Sana'xa, each of whom with their own devout following. As they died out, more from their followers took their place, or perished in their attempts to perform the Ge'jai Sana. These factions were not necessarily friendly; some warred with each other, while others formed alliances, only to betray each other later.

The Je'faokă

(lit. "family tribe." approx. -100 to 1635 ANC)

The most successful Sana'xa was known by the name Aikă Sana'xa, and in -100 ANC, she managed to unite all of the factions under one name: the Je'Faokă. Following her conquest, she established a Theocracy, repurposed her conquest supply and intelligence networks for governmental use, and determined a means of formally determining all future successors, centered around the Ge'jai Sana. This is largely written of as a time of relative prosperity, and traces of Aikă's governmental structures remain influential even in the modern day.

The Ji'lako language

(Main article: Ji'lako)

The language of the Mukasa peoples is known as Ji'lako (lit. Sand Language), and is also sometimes referred to as Ji'laka (fig. Way of the Sand) when evoking patriotism. It was developed completely in isolation, and so is not mutually intelligible with anything.

Ji'lako is a source of patriotic pride for many Mukasa people, being uniquely theirs. Learning a second language is often seen as diplomacy, which is ill-respected work, or abandoning the culture entirely, which is punishable by death.
