Kazcol
The Kazcol are the descendants of those Zahar who once made a deal with the Nat’Kaz (the first dragons; the draconic students, and children, of Kra). Collectively they have fourteen Progenitors, each with their own collection of descendants. They are unified by their draconic appearance, and ability to project raw magical power through their breath (much as dragons do).
Each group of Kazcol take their appearance and raw magical aspect from their individual Progenitor. They are commonly found across Raath, Kradin, and Perid; with smaller enclaves across each of the other continents.
Gulalite (Aurate)
Gulalite Kazcol, more commonly known as Aurate Kazcol, are the descendants of the progenitor Gulal the Golden. Originally from western Kradin on the Golden Peninsula, they are a common sight wherever the Ilankelath has conquered. Amongst the other sub-lineages, their total population is only rivaled by the Argent Kazcol, the Spring Kradin, and the Wyldborn Gothavans.
As might be expected from their name, bright gold is the most common color (though on occasion other shades ranging from dull gold to white gold to rose gold may appear). They share the sleek appearance of Gulal, and tend towards an average build (~5’10” on average). They have the ability to project raw magic and most can project it with their breath. The most common of the extraneous draconic features amongst the Aurate Kazcol is a pair of wings.
Gohpelite (Cupric)
Gohpelite Kazcol, more commonly known as Cupric Kazcol, are the descendants of the Progenitor Gohpel the Copper. The Cupric Kazcol make up the inhabitants of the fertile plains and rich mines of central Raath. Through the fourth age they were fiercely rivaled by the Tobashi Kazcol, but with the latter’s disappearance they were able to move south. This opened up the opportunity for their dramatic expansion. By the time of the Second Dragon Empire’s expansion into Raath they made up the single largest population on Raath but were unable to unite against the encroaching invaders. Thus, the homelands of the Gohpelite Kazcol were conquered by the Second Dragon Empire. Despite their conquest, many Gohpelite Kazcol fight to retain their local ancient identities while others willingly embrace the identity and culture of the empire. Gohpelite Kazcol take after the appearance of their progenitor, resulting in a uniformly copper coloring of their scales, which tend to be smaller and non-ridged. They have an affinity for lightning as does Gohpel. Generally Gohpelite Kazcol will tarnish with age, resulting in their coat becoming verdigrised; in some regions it is tradition to wax scales to prevent this while in others it is worn as a badge of honor. The tarnishing marginally weakens their scales though not enough to have any real detrimental effect. They tend towards a shorter leaner build (~5’6 on average) adapted for the migratory nature of their ancient ancestors. The most common extraneous draconic feature amongst the Gohpelite Kazcol is a more forceful breath. Saihlelan (Argent) Saihlelan Kazcol, more commonly known as Silverans or Argent Kazcol are the descendants of the progenitor Saihlel the Silver. Silverans inhabit much of north eastern Perid and Kradin. While they are not as numerous as the Aurate Kazcol, they are just as widespread. Since the time of the Silvran Republic (the predecessor of the Second Dragon Empire), they have held a great deal of power and influence. Their traditional culture is quite altruistic and communal when compared to the other Kazcol, and while much of their culture has become subsumed by that of the Empire, these distinct traits can still frequently be found wherever populations of Silverans congregate. There is a historical cultural difference between the Peridian and Kradinan Silverans; with the Peridians having culture much closer to that of the Empire and the Kradinans maintaining their old traditional values. Silverans generally have gleaming ridged scales with little variation in color. On occasion, their scales will tarnish to a deep black just as does silver, but this is rare and is seen as an omen of change or mark of power. Silverans also have the chilling magic of Saihlel. They tend to have tall slender builds (~6’ on average). Their most common extraneous draconic feature is tougher scales. Bilahan (Brazen) Anlizdite (Amethystine) Anlizdite Kazcol, more commonly known as Amethystine Kazcol are the descendants of the progenitor Anlizd the Amethyst. They make up the second largest population of Kazcol on the continent of Raath. Primarily originating from across the Darath Plain, their numbers have waned greatly since the conquest of the Second Dragon Empire. While they still make up the majority of the populace in most cities, their positions in power have been largely usurped by Imperial appointees. Nowhere is this more apparent than their once capital city of Daraath where they are now banned from any seat of governance. This is largely due to their bellicose nature and early uprisings against the Empire itself which resulted in centuries of reprisal before the half-Amethystine half-Aurate House Junial took the Imperial throne. Since then, their culture has seen a resurgence though their rights have seen no formal change. Amethystine Kazcol take after the appearance of their progenitor, with small dark purple smooth scales frequently also featherlike structures which appear as though made of Amethyst (usually on the tail, but also frequently on the head or down the back; more rarely elsewhere). They tend towards an average build similar to that of the Aurate Kazcol. They have an affinity for the raw magical power of Anlizd, and most commonly have a more forceful breath. Ledolan (Crimson) Gleenite (Verdant) Enlalist (Beryllian) Enlalist Kazcol, more commonly known as Emeraldi or Beryllian Kazcol are the descendants of the progenitor Enlal of the Emeralds. Emeraldi Kazcol are the third and smallest of the extant native populations of Kazcol on Raath. They are natives of the Kantor Plain, and are traditionally some of the finest winemakers on Agrakos. Historically they have been a mercantile and xenophilic culture, rarely fighting, preferring to trade or negotiate. The Emeraldi cities of Kantor were briefly united under a foreign High King before being conquered by the Silveran Republic. Since their conquest, first the Silverans and then the Empire have been quite tolerant of the Emeraldis, heavily relying upon their ancient trade houses when founding the Merchant’s Guild. Emeraldis are the smallest of the Kazcol (~5’ on average), taking after their progenitor Enlal who was themself the smallest of the Nat’Kaz. Despite their common name deriving from the emerald, they can appear as any type of Beryl, leading to a rather more colorful society than most other Kazcol. They are primarily covered in tufts of proto feathers that nonetheless look as though they are made of beryl. Emeraldis have an affinity for the volatile and corrosive raw magic of Enlal. Their most common extraneous draconic feature is a dagger-like tail. Bidelite (Black) Bidelan (White) Rare Kazcol These Kazcol are considered to be rare as they exist in a single limited geographical location, scattered in small diasporic communities, or are only rumoured to still exist. Adanadanan (Adamant) Adanadanan Kazcol, more commonly known as Adamant Kazcol are the descendants of Adanadanas the Adamant. Considered to be among the rarest of the Kazcol Lineages, they primarily originate in the eastern Faari’Da’More with their only population center being the small city of Ariklam. In the fourth age they were more populous but their generally pacifist nature led to them slowly losing land both to the Faarunian Vaelethi and the Cupric Kazcol. Adamant Kazcol society is generally very self reliant and is incredibly pacifist (just as their progenitor was). Their conquest by the Second Dragon Empire led to further diminishing of their population, an issue which still persists. Adamant Kazcol are taller, generally with a broad build (~6’). They generally have larger ridged scales which appear as the pinkish metallic color of Adamantine, and just like Adamantine their scales do not tarnish. They have their progenitor’s affinity for wild raw magic. Generally their most common extraneous feature is a dagger-like tail. Nithlilan (Mythrilic) Azagian (Azakite) Azagian Kazcol, also called Azakite Kazcol are the descendants of the progenitor Azagion the Azakite. They are the rarest of the extant Kazcol lineages, having no distinct homeland. In the fourth age, they were a small migratory tribe, never having nearly the population of the others. They were treated as mystics and magicians, often tolerated but just as often chased from the lands of others. Small populations can be found on nearly every continent (except the Southlands), remnants of parts of the tribe which settled at the end of the fourth age. In most places they assimilated to the local culture, retaining primarily distinct storytelling practices and some rituals. In the fifth age, they are becoming rarer and rarer, though they have become generally widely accepted by those they live with. Azakite Kazcol takes after the appearance of their progenitor with iridescent feathers over smooth scales. They are the tallest of the Kazcol (~7’ on average) generally with a lean and muscular build. They have an affinity for the raw magic of Azagion, and most frequently their extraneous draconic trait is a pair of feathered draconian wings. Tobashi (Topazian)
