Ælfswiþ is credited with one of the longest apprenticeships in Mage's Guild history, having never reached the rank of Mage by her excommunication in 1854. She is the head librarian and scribe of the Silent Library of Salvosh, founder of the Order of the Silent Library, and a Disciple of Marinth.

Early Life

Ælfswiþ was born in 1788 ANC in Elenir, into the pirate crew of the mythical Shivver.

Apprenticeship

Ælfswiþ traveled to Agrakos in 1807 ANC, and quickly began an apprenticeship with the Mage's Guild at the Golden Tower. She remained in schooling there until 1811, when she was presented the opportunity to spar with another apprentice in the arena. Immediately upon being hit her panic caused the long-dormant gifts of her Sæwylf bloodline to awaken, making her transform into a shark-like monstrosity and bite her opponent. The incident did not result in her excommunication from the guild, but did force her to leave the Golden Tower and seek a teacher elsewhere.

Ælfswiþ roamed from town to town until 1825, taking on many short-term apprenticeships along the way, but she was never able to effectively use magic in a combat scenario. She returned to Elenir on what was officially recorded by the guild as a "research trip of indefinite length," though she would later say that she "suspected the guild was hoping she would silently quit if they left her long enough." She took remained in Elenir until 1828, studying the local flora until a strange dream reignited her passion for learning magic.

Upon returning to Agrakos, Ælfswiþ found apprenticeship under Mage Marlin "Fishman" Marlin VII of Dunas, who remained her teacher until 1854, at which point she again lost control in the arena, this time resulting in the death of her opponent. Mage Marlin helped her escape the city without consequence, and told her to begin adventuring as a way to train her ability to handle high-stress scenarios. She signed with as a bodyguard for a Messenger in Alakarna and helped to recover a package that had been stolen. In attempting to bring the thief, High Mage Midun, to justice she angered his allies and was officially excommunicated from the Mage's Guild.
