At the dawn of the First Age the gods created the Anarai, then out of Hubris the Anarai fell. When they fell, their connection to the divine was severed and they became mortal. These mortals became known as the Zahar. For the second age the Zahar struggled on, teetering on the edge of extinction. When Lunala brought stability to the pantheon, they were finally able to reach out to the gods who were able to assert their power over Agrakos as they settled into their places under the moon.

The few Zahar who survived the second age (be it individuals, families, tribes, settlements, or warbands) sought after gods and spirit willing to bless them. Over the third age, they made deals, made blood pacts, swore bloodline oaths, all resulting in what became the Lineages. These deals warped the power and appearance of the Zahar to varying degrees. Their patrons, now often called the Progenitors. Members of the lineages began to rise up to take their place amongst the ranks of the Risen. As time passed, the lineages became distanced from their progenitors. This newfound distance granted leeway to the lineages, though the ancient oaths and deals would never truly lose their power.

The First Lineages

Though not a lineage in the sense of the now extant lineages, many consider the Anarai and the Zahar to be the first two of the lineages. Though they may now be extinct, their influence on the people, language, culture, landscape, and history of Agrakos leave them held in high nigh mythical regard.

The Lineages

In the fourth age, and into the fifth age there are nine relatively commonly known extant lineages , and one which is rare enough to be not but a myth to most. These are the Kazcol, Vaelethi, Dur, Dinites, Umbran, Gothi, Eleen, Yenali, Astratans; and the near mythical Thaladri.

Kazcol

The Kazcol are the descendants of the Zahar who devoted themselves to the draconic Nat'Kaz. They are both numerous and widespread with a total of fourteen sub-lineages, one for each of the fourteen original dragons. They are draconic in appearance and are tied to the sort of magic their progenitor was devoted to. Each of the sub-lineages has two names, one for the appearance and one for the progenitor.

Vaelethi

The Vaelethi are descended from communities of Zahar across Agrakos who made their deals with local spirits. They take the animal aspect of the spirits they made their deals with, which are consistent within regions but not between regions.

Dur

The Dur are the descendants of Zahar who made deals with one of the fragmentary shards of Malikiva Duriki. However, this is unknown to the vast majority of people in Agrakos (the Dur themselves included). To most, the Dur are a collection of lineages who made deals with powerful spirits tied to the land, often seen as haven fallen from the sky. The category of 'Dur is simply an umbrella term for the peoples with horns and tails; the origin of the term long ago lost. They come in four major populations based on both region and for some the specific shard.
